FINDING A REIKI PRACTITIONER

To ensure that you receive a Reiki treatment of a high standard and one that suits your specific needs, CARO has included some helpful advice on how to find the right Reiki practitioner for you.

CARO recommends that:
* You choose a Reiki practitioner from a CARO Member Organisation ensuring a high minimum standard which includes quality Codes of Ethics and Professional Practice and a practitioner that complies with a comprehensive Complaints Procedure.
* The practitioner will necessarily have achieved an acceptable level of minimum experience as required by the member organisation before he/she can claim practitioner status.
* A practitioner has fulfilled all legal obligations required of a professional practitioner and is insured for public liability and professional indemnity.

QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR REIKI PRACTITIONER

Important questions to ask a Reiki practitioner:
* What is Reiki and how does it work?
* How long have you been practicing?
* How do you think the treatment can support me in my healing?
* What does a Reiki treatment include?
* What are your qualifications?

Other practical questions for a Reiki practitioner:
*
What is your address?
* Is there parking or public transport available?
* How long is the session?
* What is the cost of the session?
* Does the cost of the entire session include GST?

A Reiki practitioner’s answers to these questions will help you gauge:
*
A practitioner’s personal perspective about the system of Reiki.
* The Reiki practitioner’s confidence and ability to communicate effectively.
* Whether you feel comfortable with the practitioner and if he/she will support your needs.
* If you wish to undertake the treatment or not.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM A REIKI TREATMENT

When a client enters a Reiki session, the client and practitioner discuss together the client’s needs. At this point the practitioner clarifies how he or she will perform the Reiki treatment. Below is some basic information regarding what you might expect during a professional Reiki treatment:

* Length of session - A Reiki session (including treatment and pre and post practitioner discussions etc…) may take from 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
* The client remains clothed throughout the treatment, removing shoes, spectacles (if worn) and jacket only. Belts and jewellery may be removed for comfort if desired.
* The client lies on a treatment table. If this is not suitable for a client then a chair or other comfortable environment may be utilised.
* The practitioner places hands on or near the client’s body.
*
The practitioner moves along the body, most likely placing hands on some or all of these areas: the head, torso, back and limbs.
*
A Reiki treatment is an intuitive practice and therefore the practitioner may also adjust the treatment accordingly, depending upon what he/she senses.
* As the practice of Reiki is an energetic one, a Reiki practitioner also intuitively follow the energetic change that occurs throughout the treatment.
* No two treatments will ever be exactly the same, however there are common threads that run through all Reiki treatments – they include a level of professional conduct and a basic treatment structure to work from.

WHAT NOT TO EXPECT FROM A REIKI TREATMENT
*
Whereas a practitioner may hold their hands over Private parts of the body, these parts are not directly touched. This includes the genital area, breasts and culturally or personally sensitive areas that the client indicates should not be touched.
* The practitioner does not physically manipulate the body in any way nor touch burns or contagious areas. Hands may be placed above these areas but not in direct contact once they have been properly dressed.
*
A Reiki practitioner does not offer diagnosis nor judge the effects of a Reiki treatment.
*
A Reiki treatment does not include the use of any “tools” (such as crystals, pendulums, Bach flowers or singing bowls for example). A practitioner must gain the consent of the client before using any tools during a professional Reiki treatment.
*
A Reiki treatment does not include the use of any other therapies or modalities (such as massage, kinesiology, reflexology, acupressure, psychic readings and counselling for example). A practitioner must gain the consent of the client before using any therapies or modalities during a professional Reiki treatment.
