The Present The CARO Board are currently preparing a report on the highly successful 2007 National CARO Convention "Reiki: Unity in Community."
13th September 2007 As announced at the recent CARO Convention and resulting from CARO member organisation consultations throughout the year a new professional development course is now available to the Australian Reiki community to support Reiki treatment standards via self-regulation. Find out more here >>>.
17th-19th August 2007 The highly successful Caro National Convention "Reiki: Unity in Community" was held at Manyung Convention Centre on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria. Reiki practitioners from all over Australia came together to join in unity and discuss the past, present and future of the system of Reiki in Australia.
July 2007 A new Member Organisation, Reiki Association Inc., joined CARO's founding Member Organisations.
9th November 2006 Due to the lack of agreement regarding Reiki practitioner regulation via a governmental route in 2006, and with at least another four years before an attempt can be made again, there is a need for the Reiki community to take the lead and join together to discuss future directions. CARO believes the way forward may in fact be through self-regulation, rather than governmental. To that end, CARO's Member Organisations are currently holding discussions appropos self-regulation of the system of Reiki in Australia. The large Reiki representation held by the Member Organisations ensures that these discussions are an excellent starting point for the Reiki community in Australia to move forward in Unity. We encourage other Reiki organisations to join CARO and be involved.
The CARO board is also in the process of developing courses to support the Australian Reiki community in standards development and training for self-regulation.
6th October 2006
On the 6th October 2006, Reiki Australia and its fellow representatives responded to CARO's request from the 29th June 2006. CARO had requested detailed information as to their objections to the CARO Reiki qualification in order to consider the possibility of following through with a Category 2 qualification with the CSHISC. The response received stated that their feedback could be found in the minutes of the meeting of the 16th June 2006.
CARO has responded by repeating the request for specific objections to the CARO Reiki qualification, as the minutes lacked detail. Such feedback would be helpful in considering if there is a way forward that can be agreed on.
CARO has also suggested that it would be helpful if it could view the final submission that was developed from the draft by Reiki Australia and its fellow representatives. CARO would like to see what areas the industry as a whole can agree on. This too would contribute to a way forward. CARO awaits a reply.
29th June 2006
CARO, in a willingness to proceed, has asked Reiki Australia to inform CARO of all specific objections to the CARO draft submission for the proposed Reiki qualification.
16th June 2006 National Certificate IV & Diploma in Reiki will not go ahead at this point in time
In spite of agreement between Reiki stakeholders over the desire for a national level qualification in Reiki treatment practice, significant differences emerged in how the various stakeholders saw such a qualification being implemented, and what content should be included.
On this basis, the CSHISC concluded today that the industry is not at a state of readiness whereby a Reiki qualification could be included for endorsement within the Health Training Package currently under review, and due for release shortly. The CHSISC informed the stakeholders that there is currently no further funding, and therefore no resources, to continue the work on a Reiki qualification.
CARO feels that it is better for there to be no qualification at this stage, than to have one go through that doesn't appropriately meet the needs of the majority of professional practitioners.
To that end, we continue to support the development of an acceptable, quality qualification, to be drafted and agreed in time for inclusion in the Health Training Package at its next review.
CARO Member Organisation representatives on the Council will have this on their "to do" list for the future, ensuring broad consultation on what the Reiki industry would like to see of its professionals.
