The Council of Australian Reiki Organisations, CARO, would like to offer visitors to this website a brief definition of Reiki and the Usui system of Reiki (USR) to support a clear historical perspective of the system.

Reiki
The energy, which translated from the Japanese, means spiritual energy or, as it is more commonly rendered in the West, universal life force energy.

Usui System of Reiki

A system that originated with Mikao Usui in the early 1900s in
Japan.
Comprising a number of elements including hands-on/near practice, techniques and/or meditations, symbols and mantras, attunements performed in person and Mikao Usui's precepts that promote holistic healing on physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual levels.
This system supports spiritual growth and facilitates self-healing and empowerment.
This system can be used to benefit the self and others.

The History of CARO

A nation-wide press release relating the uniqueness of CARO and its purpose was sent to relevant radio, newspaper and magazine media.

Further invitations to Australian Reiki organisations to join CARO were also sent out. If your organisation did not receive an invitation please feel free to contact us as we may have unintentionally overlooked your organisation.

24th April 2006
A submission was provided by CARO to the CSHISC in relation to Draft 2 of the Reiki Qualification.

This submission included feedback on both the Certificate and Diploma along with support for CARO's feedback from external training professionals.

21st April 2006

The Council of Australian Reiki Organisations, CARO, publicly announced its presence on
the 21st April 2006

The need for a national umbrella body for Reiki was first conceived of in 2005.

In July 2005, the first draft of a national Reiki qualification was announced by its writers; the Community Services and Health Industry Skills Council (CSHISC) and one Australian Reiki association.

Many Australian Reiki organisations, associations, networks, schools and individual practitioners were not in agreement with the contents and structure of this qualification. Letters were consequently sent to the Minister for the Department of Education, Science and Training, the CSHISC, and the draft’s initiators, explaining that the Proposed qualification was not representative of the majority of the Australian Reiki community and industry.

In October 2005, the CSHISC facilitated a meeting of various industry stakeholders.

A self-established Reiki stakeholder group calling itself NRRG (National Reiki Reference Group) formed on the 12th November 2005 in Melbourne. NRRG, pronounced 'energy', formed to facilitate the process of feedback within the industry for the national Reiki qualification.

Under CSHISC facilitation, a decision was endorsed by the Reiki industry stakeholders that a national umbrella body would be in place by the time the national Reiki qualification was released.

Even though the concept of a national umbrella body had been endorsed by the Australian Reiki stakeholders its importance became more relevant as the feedback process continued. The qualification itself required that a national umbrella body exist in order to support Registered Training Organisations in a number of tasks including verifying prospective student’s entry criteria to the qualification.

A working party was developed to create the structure of a national body, however due to the lack of progress within NRRG this project was unsuccessful.

For this reason it became imperative that the initiative be taken up by a majority of the Reiki industry stakeholders. These stakeholders researched the possibility of a national umbrella body and sought out examples of relevant national bodies within and without
Australia, resulting in the formation of CARO.

CARO is representative of a large majority of Australia's major Usui system of Reiki (USR) organisations and associations including the Usui Reiki Network International, Australian Reiki Connection Inc., International House of Reiki, International Center for Reiki Training, Australiasian Usui Reiki Association and the Asia Pacific Reiki Institute.

Expressions of interest to join CARO are invited from associated/incorporated/registered Usui system of Reiki organisations.

The creation of CARO has been enacted with the best interests of the Usui system of Reiki community and industry at heart.
